How to turn very degraded landscapes into resilient food producing locations ?🤔🧐
The World Food Programme sustains the Great Green Wall of Africa project, whose aim is to create a barrier of trees, from Dakar to Djibouti, to stop the expansion of the Sahara and to create abundance and make people live here.🌳🌳🌳🌳
*1st step: Build water harvesting structures that maintain the water on site : half moon or zaï technique🌛
*2nd step: Plant lines with different crops🌱
*3rd step: Plant biomass trenches to provide biomass as the system grows🌿
*4th step: Plant pits with fruits trees between the trenches🥭
That will drive the rejuvenation and the protection of the soil as the system starts growing into abundance and producing food and life for the people living here.👍
Young people don’t have to leave the villages anymore to find work, they take care of the lands and contribute to the local dynamic of the community, that creates a local cohesion.🤝
